How to Produce the Perfect Still Life Photography Shoot at Home
I’m an amateur photographer, and these are my tips to produce an amazing still life photoshoot at home.
1. Choose a Theme
The most important part of the still life shoot is to ensure that there is an overall theme. It needs to be something that connects all elements in the shoot together and should be easily discernible by the viewer. For the photo above, I chose an Indian theme. My jewelry was made in India and is similar to traditional Indian jewelry. As a backdrop, I actually used a comforter set. It was an ornate gold and black comforter that also had Indian inspired artwork. Therefore, it worked perfectly with the jewelry.
2. Perfect your Lighting
You don’t need studio lighting to achieve the perfect look. In fact, I shot the above photo in my bedroom in the afternoon. I closed the blinds and turned on the lights inside. This is because natural light is not consistent and can sometimes be harsh. Artificial lighting allows you to control the amount and direction of the light and is therefore often best for still life, so I used a regular lamp that I had in my room.
